Maturity is re-reading the Harry Potter books and realising that, far from having the ‘emotional range of a teaspoon’, Ron Weasley is actually the most emotionally-sensible person in the golden trio.

yuuup. He might not be able to put words to it with psych 101 terms, but he’s definitely better at reading his friends than they are he and others much of the time. He’s also very in touch with emotions in general.

*nods* And he actually acknowledges his mistakes and outright says he’s sorry instead of letting the narrative make up excuses for him!

He might not entirely understand how a girl’s mind works, but that’s… actually totally normal since boys and girls function so differently you’d at time wonder whether we’re from the same planet.

Heck, Ron’d be a great therapist. He’s so fun and nice to be around, no wonder Harry and Hermione were practically glued to his side.

He adopted them both into the Weasleys. Neville is his special project too. (Like seriously, he is always cheering that kid on throughout the series.)

YES!! Ron telling Neville “you’re worth twelve of Malfoy” is just the most adorable thing!

And he’s so supportive as well – you know after Harry and Hermione almost got themselves killed by the centaurs, Ron arrives with Ginny, Neville and Luna, and the four of them are a bit worse for wear but beaming with happiness and Ron’s just “Oh you should have seen Neville’s Jelly-legs jinx – and Ginny’s Bat-Bogey Hex -”

Ron is so full of praises for all his friends, it melts my heart and I’m so sad because he himself hardly ever get any… I’d read a fanfic where it’s nothing but Ron being complimented and him being a self-deprecating bean but by the end he’s trying hard not to cry ;v;

When Hermione says to Ron that he has the emotional range of a teaspoon, what she means is, “Why haven’t you read my mind and realized I’m in love with you?”

But yeah, Ron is definitely the most emotionally complex and emotionally intelligent of the trio. He can tell that Harry and Hermione react to conflict in completely different ways and handle each of them appropriately. (More or less. Harry’s “If we’re going to fight anyway I might as well provoke you so I know why I got hit” style doesn’t really have a good complement, other than “Walk away and deescalate.” And Ron does have a blind spot around conflict caused by Hermione’s feelings for him, just because he can’t quite believe she would feel that way.)

I am a sucker in fic for Ron being told how important he is to people and getting some d*** apologies. And hugs. I would also read an entire fic about people hugging Ron.

(I hate to be pedantic–that’s actually a lie, I love to be pedantic–but it’s actually Harry that tells Neville he’s worth twelve of Malfoy. SS p. 218. At the second Quidditch match, p. 225, Neville repeats it to Malfoy, Malfoy laughs at him, and Ron has the honor of being the first of the trio to punch Malfoy in the face. Neville then takes on Crabbe and Goyle single-handed, the first of many moves to make Neville the iconic Gryffindor. I think this is a rare instance where movie!Ron got someone else’s important line, which is why everyone remembers Ron saying it.)
