I’m not gonna name names, but you can tell which fanfics subscribe to the ‘Hermione is brilliant at everything and Ron is the goofy blokish lout’ idea about the Romione pairing.

I could just-about stand it for a while, but there’s only so many times I can read Hermione telling Ron to ‘shut up’ after she’s snogged him. If I want to see Hermione treating Ron like an immature child she’s being forced to babysit, I’ll watch the film series, thank-you-very-much.

Oh my god, thank you so much for saying this. This type of fanfic is the cringiest cringe.

Also I can’t stand those fanfics where Hermione and Ron are a couple but then Hermione goes saying Ron’s an idiot in casual conversation with her friends. Even the “he’s an idiot but he’s my idiot” thing gets old fast. Isn’t a relationship supposed to mean you support and respect your partner as much as they do you?! Why is Hermione so disgustingly demeaning and patronizing towards Ron?! She fell in love with him because she saw how truly special he was, not because he was stupid and made her laugh! Ron’s not Hermione’s pet, for goodness’ sake!

Exactly! It’s just unpleasant to read! It also tried to argue that Hermione was the only DA member aside from Harry to be able to cast a corporeal patronus. Like, seriously? It’s stated in the books that she’s the worst of the trio at magic tied to emotions (Divination, Flying, etc.). How on earth could the author miss that?

It’s quite worrying that some people in the fandom find that ‘cute’. That’s why I like fics that actually show Hermione being appreciative to Ron when he isn’t around, and even calling out other people (Ginny, especially) who are rude about him.

I think a lot of it comes back to the films, and how they shaped the fandom’s perception of the Romione pairing. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again; virtually all of the bad treatment Ron gets in the fandom can be directly linked back to Steve Kloves.

Hi :) Do you have any people realising how they’ve treated Ron fanfics? I’ve read almost all of yours and Stay Standing (Amazing story). It’s just kinda difficult to try and find some Ron centric fanfiction that doesn’t make him seem like a complete bafoon.

Heya Nonnie!

I’ve not come across any that have Harry and Hermione (or much less anyone in the family) realizing how crappy they’ve treated him (and oh, maybe, apologize for treating like rubbish) but I’m sure some who might know more than I do would be able to point you the way to some of that particular niche genre fics.

And…. I have a request from another person on a fic, angsty as all get out, where the family realizes that they might lose Ron and they are so upset over it. (I have the plot outlined already but can’t really start on it ‘til after I hash out this next fic that needs to be done before the end of next month.)

So stay tuned and I’ll have something up in that particular niche sooner than later. (*and if I can work on the WIPs too, that’ll be grand as well.)

Apologies if I’m butting in here,

Anon, I’ve got a fanfic called ‘All of Me’ which has Hermione realising how badly she treated him and apologised for it.

If I remember correctly, @vivithefolle also has one where both Harry and Hermione realise how their actions have affected Ron.

Anyone else know any that are like that?

Headcanon: Olive Hornby had a daughter who turned out to have very poor eyesight. Her bespectacled appearance became a constant reminder of the circumstances surrounding Moaning Myrtle’s death. The daughter conveyed her mother’s shame and apologies to Myrtle, and the young girl and Myrtle became good friends.
