Lena Dunham and Taylor Swift are not role models. If you want to look up to feminist icons, I suggest Zendaya, Emma Watson & Rowan Blanchard.

From what I heard, Emma Watson isnt a good shining beacon for feminism either….

Yeah, Emma Watson is the girl who tried, but didn’t think. The corset thing was stupid.

I know I’m probably going to regret this, but… what corset thing? And please, no pictures.

Pretty sure Evanna Lynch is responsible for giving an entire generation a thing for Irish accents.

Maybe but I blame Katie McGrath (who played Morgana

in Merlin.)

I’m noticing a trend of awesome Celtic women playing bad-ass sorcerers. Maybe the two things go hand-in-hand?

Sorry for intruding We’re forgetting someone

Honest to Merlin, I didn’t even know he was Irish (I don’t go on YouTube much). Also, if he has played a Celtic Witch, I haven’t heard about it….

okay but instead of harry & ron asking the patil twins to the yule ball they go with each other

they’re dancing pretty goofily during most of the ball & even talking with hermione & viktor a little & suddenly the champions have to dance, right?

it’s a slow song. one about love & friendship. well ron starts leading harry in the dance & things get a little awkward because it wasn’t like before when they were a few feet apart. they’re up really close now.

but it doesn’t really feel all that weird to ron. harry’s his best mate & it feels right to dance with him like this.  & then it hits him. maybe he doesn’t really see harry as his best mate at all. maybe harry is meant to be something more than that.

so he leans in and gives harry a gentle kiss.

ron thinks harry is gonna push him away but he doesn’t. harry just wraps his arms around ron and kisses him back.

and that’s how ron became harry’s first love.

(sorry if it’s not too good, i’m not much of a writer)

That was brilliant, @whatifdestiel! Thank you so much for submitting! Loved it all!

Not gonna lie, though; I can’t help but wonder what Hermione’s reaction would have been. Jealousy, tears, setting a flock of birds on Harry?..

i might have to come up with something for how hermione reacts when she finds out that ron & harry were together. i personally think she’d be jealous but at the same time understand because “same harry! ron is way too amazing for his own good! it’s a wonder he doesn’t have a line of people waiting to date him!”

“because they know how you get when you are jealous hermione! they’d never dare touch ron with you around! you’d kill them!”

I’d like to think that it would turn out that way.

Guy in his 20s; just want to share a quick story. When I was a teenager, every guy I knew who was into HP had a crush on Hermione because they thought Emma was really hot. I found myself drawn to Evanna instead, but when I said this, my friends responded with, “You’re not supposed to have a crush on Luna. She’s the *weird* girl.” But I didn’t care: I knew who I liked, and I realized that it doesn’t matter if people tell you that somebody you like is “weird”. Luna is still the best person ever.

SAME HERE!

Hang on, I remember @harrypotterconfessions once posting a confession that was very similar to this. I didn’t know you were still on tumblr! Brilliant!

I was only a young teenager when the last half of the series were being released, so I was a bit too young to have crushes on the main cast. I do remember all the boys around me fancying Emma Watson, though, and I never really got it. Sure, Watson was good-looking, but I never understood why they made such a big deal over her.

Then, I watched OOTP in the early 2010s on DVD, and developed a massive crush on Evanna Lynch as soon as she appeared onscreen. I loved her portrayal of Luna, and enjoyed all the Luna scenes that were shown in that film.

At the time, I was definitely in the minority of male HP fans. I know what you mean when you said people criticised you for liking her.

Honestly, I’ve always been attracted to people like that. Evanna Lynch had a lot of personality in the films (far more than Emma Watson did, anyway), and that was what attracted me to her. She seemed like someone who you could hang around with, and enjoy her company.

Luna is awesome, and my second-favourite character in the series after Ron. Evanna understood Luna from the get-go, and I’ve always loved her portrayal of the character.

Even nowadays, I’m still attracted to women who remind me of Evanna Lynch. At Uni, I had a crush on a Norwegian girl who had the same hair and type-of-personality as Evanna.

Societal definitions of ‘normal’ are pointless anyway. Everybody’s weird, and I think that being attracted to kind, compassionate and loving people like Luna is an incredibly healthy form of attraction. Screw people who criticise others who liking someone who’s supposedly-’weird’.

And, as @justsaya, @hillnerd and @gaylittlepieceofsh1t will no-doubt back me up on; Evanna Lynch is amazing, and it should be no shock that people are attracted to her.

Thanks for the message, anon!

Oops, my hand slipped and this happened. A quick drabble, in which Harry and Hermione stay for the last quidditch match in OotP. (First three paragraphs from OotP for framing.) I blame @vivithefolle for giving me Rarry on the brain.

“And they’re off!” said Lee. “And Davies takes the Quaffle immediately, Ravenclaw Captain Davies with the Quaffle, he dodges Johnson, he dodges Bell, he dodges Spinnet as well…  He’s going straight for goal! He’s going to shoot — and — and —” Lee swore very loudly. “And he’s scored.”

Harry and Hermione groaned with the rest of the Gryffindors. Predictably, horribly, the Slytherins on the other side of the stands began to sing:

Weasley cannot save a thing,
He cannot block a single ring …

Harry wanted to cover his ears. He couldn’t watch, but he couldn’t look away either, as Katie lost the Quaffle to Bradley, who charged back up the pitch, going for the left hoop, and Ron lunged to the right. Harry very nearly groaned—until he saw too late what Ron had seen in the nick of time, the shift in Bradley’s direction to shoot into the right hoop and directly into Ron’s hands. Harry barely had time to register the save before he was on his feet, screaming, but half of Gryffindor was on their feet with him; the other half hadn’t had a chance to register what had happened before Alicia was charging toward the other end of the pitch.

Everyone is dedicating me things lately and I have no idea how and when I have gotten this power but I’m not complaining

OH MY GOOOOOD with a crescendo-ing music this piece is an absolute wonder to read.

Harry wasn’t surprised; rather he was thrilled that finally, finally Ron was showing them all what he could do.

THIS LINE OH MY GOD THIS LINE. THAT’S RIGHT RONNIE YOU SHOW THEM

And AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA the joy at the end ❤

oh god what is going on now

guys calm down, you can still draw fictional people naked

#just not fucking.#I can live with that.#honestly this is slightly irritating but not ‘THE SKY IS FALLING’

Yyyyyeah except they’ve already:

  1. purged the ‘chronic pain’ tag
  2. purged the ‘top surgery’ tag
  3. made ‘trans’ tag inaccessible to non-functional
  4. deleted a bunch of chronic illness blogs
  5. deleted a bunch of chronic pain and chronic illness posts from blogs they’ve left (like mine)

This isn’t just about ‘oh no you can’t look at people fucking anymore’ (even though lots of sex workers are losing their means of supporting themselves). This goes a lot further, with a lot more chilling effects.

The sexualizing of things like ‘top surgery’ or declaring all ‘trans’ tagged things to be … sexual… is really, REALLY fucked up. Never mind the fact that ‘chronic pain’ had NOTHING to do with sexiness, and we’ve been given no explanation as to why disabled people were considered acceptable collateral damage.

ALSO I had a post flagged earlier today for a cartoon picture of Mario in a bathing suit. Mario, from Super Mario Brothers.

Someone else reported a picture of a cartoon scorpion with a hard hat on being flagged as pornography. Tagging things as ‘queer’ or ‘gay’ gets them flagged NSFW. (Hey, guess what I’d been tagging my t-shirts, because they’re pride stuff? Oh right. Queer. Gay. Pride.)

This is a fucking problem, let’s not blow it off.

I know some people are too young (or simply weren’t involved in fandom back then) to remember what went down with livejournal and a couple of other sites “back in the day”, but it all started out as “it’s okay, we’re just removing the nasty porn”, and then “okay well, just make sure you put your porn behind a cut, no, wait jk you need to host it externally, a link is fine, maybe” and pretty much devolved swiftly into “actually sweety, LGBT content is inherently NSFW by default because it might make the kiddies gay if we expose them to it, so y’all need to leave now byyyeeee”.

Like…that happened. And it took nearly a decade for the fandom spaces to recover and stabilize and to get to the point where LGBT content creators could host their content without being told “you’re not welcome here” and I’m just sitting here, watching as youtube demonetizes LGBT content creators, and Facebook flags up LGBT ads as “inappropriate” and now tumblr is going through the queer and gay tags and just mass blanketing it as inappropriate, while actual pornbots and nazis wind up in my recommended feed.

(As an interesting aside: isn’t it funny how all these sites attribute these things to an algorithm error? Itsn’t that funny.)

Like I am uncomfortable y’all. I am looking around at everything I’ve built and all the friends I’ve made and I know we’re all looking for the next safe space to jump to while hoping we don’t lose each other overnight like “the olden days” where you’d wake up and your fave blogger was just gone.

And usually it was because they’d drawn or written something as simple yet explicit as a kiss. It was just the wrong kind of kiss.

So yea, the sky is not falling, but the ice under our feet sure is making worrying sounds.

sirius-lupin-black:

the most unbelievable thing from harry potter was that no one commented on neville’s name

Also, the fact that Luna’s last name is ‘Lovegood’ and no-one commented on it. Like, with Rowling’s track record of accurately-descriptive names, is it any wonder that people though she’d end up dating Harry?

Maybe this sounds weird but… I sort of feel that one of the reasons people hate Ron so much is because he admitted his mistakes/flaws so often, which, for them, sort of manifested them. I mean… of the Golden Trio, Harry did that too, but not as often as Ron, and he’s more popular. Hermione is more popular than both of them, and her mistakes/flaws were rarely even adressed as such, and to me it seems that that helped her fans not to aknowledge them.

Yes! That’s what I’ve been saying!

People who deem Ron irredeemable and “unworthy” of Hermione (concerning his mistakes), only do it because they are passive readers who lack critical thinking. They need everything to be pointed out to them. They need all the “You’re the brightest witch of your age” and the “You’re amazing, you are” lines for Ron Weasley as well, because it’s impossible for them to love a character unless they’re told to. They’re unable to use their brains, and think outside the box. They bash Ron because his mistakes are acknowledged by the narrative. When Hermione messes up, it’s girl power. When Harry messes up, it’s fine because he has a lot on his plate (although, Harry does get called out when he messes up and sadly, Harry also gets a lot of hate.) When Ron messes up, he gets punished, humiliated, called out, and eventually, learns from his mistakes……which is a blessing in disguise tbh. It’s funny how Ron haters are so quick to point out his less than stellar moments, but forget about his character development. Lol, fuck them. I’d rather have a character who is punished for their mistakes, than a character whose mistakes are glorified.

Think about it. We dislike Umbridge because she gave Harry (and other students) scars. But Hermione? She essentially did the same thing and scarred Marietta as a form of punishment, without informing the DA about the consequences of betrayal. She did the same thing to Ron and “punished” him for going out with Lavender by attacking him with birds and giving him (temporary?) scars and cuts.

So why don’t people consider what Hermione did to the same extent as Umbridge? Oh, yeah. Because Ron didn’t burst into tears whenever Hermione hurt him emotionally or physically. Because people’s actions aren’t measured by the actions themselves but by the victim’s reactions. Because fuck J.K Rowling and her obvious favouritism for Hermione Granger.

Absolutely all of this. And even more so – Ron says so himself. He says when he’s doing something wrong Harry does sometimes. Hermione never does.
