Things I Wish I Knew Earlier In Fandom

But maybe these will help somebody now.

  • Most of your fandom experience is shaped by who you follow. Find a good group of people and stick with them.
  • Support your favs and a lot of them will become your friends, or at least be friendly back to you.
  • Just unfollow people who bring unwanted content or negativity onto your dash.
  • Block people who cause you stress. It’s not worth your time to focus on parts of fandom that don’t make you happy.
  • Blacklisting words/tags is a tool you are allowed to use as much as you need to.
  • Don’t feel like you have to pretend to like things that make you uncomfortable in order to fit in. Set healthy boundaries for yourself.
  • Never tag your hate. Never send hate anons to someone.
  • Content creators love getting comments, seeing people gush in the tags on reblogs, and getting fans in their inbox. It’s the best way to motivate them to keep making awesome stuff.
  • If there’s certain content you want to see but it doesn’t exist yet, then make it. Draw the thing, write that fic. If you can’t, then comission an artist or writer, or send someone a prompt if they’re open to it. If you can’t do that either, then write meta or headcanons about it. Put it into the world.
  • Create what you love. Do it for yourself first and foremost, and if even one other person likes it too, then that’s a bonus.

I hate men

Can we bring this back? He’s the reason I started carrying knives everywhere… One time he saw me inside of a liquor store and I refused to step outside until he finally left.. AN HOUR LATER. He just stood there waiting for me to leave the store. Ugh. I’m glad I’m across the country from this creep.

Oh he also stopped by my work EVERYDAY to ask me out and EVERYDAY I would say “no thank you” it got to the point that whenever I saw his car pull up I would tell my boss and then go hide in the back room. He honestly terrified me.

Men are fucking terrifying, I once had some random dude stalk me at work because I smiled at him. … something you get in trouble for if you don’t do when in customer service!

what the actual fuck

Everytime a guy tries to describe himself to me as a nice guy and that i shouldn’t be afraid, my warning siren in my head gets louder.

protip, people who are actually nice, don’t usually feel the need to tell everyone how nice they are.

Men feel so entitled sometimes. It’s scary to watch the interactions sometimes.

Flashback to that one time a guy texted me that trick way to say “I love you” and I caught on to the shit before I could text that to him. When I got mad about it he called me crazy and said I was overreacting when I asked for an apology. He never actually gave me an honest apology. He continued to bad mouth me to everyone I know calling me a crazy bitch for telling him I didn’t want to be friends anymore.

Trying to trick me into texting you “I love you” is not a friendly joke, nor is it something you should EVER do to someone who has explicitly said that they only consider you a friend.

two points i’d like to make as a non-american before thanksgiving

1. native americans exist and y’all better not forget the racist, colonialist, violent history of this holiday

2. be! nice! to! retail workers! on! black! friday! y’all get scary with your shopping so be nice to the people who have to deal with y’all

and that’s what i have to say on that matter

you know i’d probably ship harry & hermione if it weren’t for the shippers. i mean it’s a much purer ship than half the ones this fandom has. but idk the way the harmoanians treated ron & ginny like they were two abusive r*pists or something like that just turned me off to the ship forever. plus i just can’t see those two being together really? i mean harry himself said he’d much rather be with ron than listen to hermione lecturing him.

ronandhappiness:

I wouldn’t ship it even if the shippers weren’t insufferable. Harry and Hermione would have an unhealthy relationship in canon because they are incompatible. They never have fun with each other, because both Harry and Hermione prefer Ron. Hermione also loves bossing Harry around and Harry normally ignores her, avoids her, or in his worst moments, explodes at her. Adding to that, for Harry, tears are a big turn-off (which is fine, my grandfather HATES it when people cry in front of him and luckily, he married a not-so-weepy woman.) Hermione, on the other hand, uses tears A LOT to express her emotions, and it’s canon that Harry hates it when she cries. And not in a, “oh honey shhh don’t cry it makes me sad when you cry” but in a “yeah….this is awkward….for fucks sake stop crying ugh when will it end” way.

Oh, and Harry is simply not attracted to Hermione. Notice how when Harry is describing Ginny, he is always poetic (“Blushing like the setting sun”), but his descriptions of Hermione revolve around, “Rather large front teeth, shrilly voice”, etc. Heck, I hate Dr*rry but Harry describes Draco better than he describes Hermione. H*rmione stans also love saying that Ron and Hermione have nothing in common and “what would stupid ron and perfect hermione ever talk about harr harr” (which is bs) but what the hell would Harry and Hermione talk about? How much they love Ron? How much they miss Ron? Is that what the H*rmione ship is about? Loving Ron Weasley?

But yeah, it is the shippers’ fault that we hate it as much as we do. If it weren’t for the shippers, H*rmione would be more of a “not my cup of tea but you do you” NOTP instead of a “keep that shit away from me” NOTP. I blame them because they ruined Harry and Hermione’s friendship for me.

(Not going to rant about the abusive Ron and Ginny nonsense. That’s so 2003.)

Agree with all of this. The minority of H*rmione shippers who are militant about it have effectively ruined my ability to enjoy Harry and Hermione’s friendship. So much so that I actually get physically uncomfortable when I see fan-art or fanfiction of the two hanging out or either of them hugging the other in a platonic way. Even though I know that’s a ridiculous reaction to have. It’s had that much of an effect on the way I see the characters interact.

Obviously, most people who ship the two aren’t nearly as militant as that, but it’s the small minority of militant shippers who have made it impossible for me to enjoy Harry and Hermione’s friendship.

honestly i think it’s kind of funny that there are romione shippers out there that are like “yeah romione is otp! couple goals! together forever! but harry and ron are soulmates okay.” tbh i’m of that variety of romione shipper. what about you? also what are your favorite moments between the trio?

ronandhappiness:

i’ve always loved ron and harry’s friendship and I felt like it was very underappreciated in the fandom. like, remember when romione shippers loved harry and hermione’s friendship? yeah me neither. I used to get so much shit for not buying the whole “harry and hermione are bffs” nonsense so I am l i v i n g for all the ronarry love. it took me a while to start loving romantic!ronarry but right after romione, ron/harry is the relationship that I love the most so I thought, “huh…might as well start shipping it. wait, it’s going to annoy the dr*rry and h*rmione shippers? It’s my otp now.”

idk which type of romione shipper I am. maybe the “romione shipper who is critical of her ship, with a healthy dose of ronarry love and spoonfuls of hermione criticism”?? yeah that’s probably it.

my favourite golden trio moments?

  • When Hermione was “asking Ron out” to Slughorn’s party and Harry was being an awkward third-wheel. Hilarious.
  • When they became friends. So sweet.
  • When they worked together to escape from the Devil’s snare. Hermione knowing the theory. Harry telling her to light a fire. Ron reminding her panicking arse that she was a witch.

Thanks for the ask. 🙂

“Romione shipper who is critical of her ship, with a healthy dose of Ronarry love and spoonfuls of Hermione criticism”

Sounds like a very good description of most of the people in our corner of the HP fandom.
