In Chamber of Secrets when Harry confesses not knowing what floo powder is, Ron’s immediate reaction is “Sorry, Harry, I should’ve realized”. As in him, Ron, should’ve remembered that Harry’s life is different from his own. No “you should’ve told me!” or “Why didn’t you say anything?” The first thing out of his mouth is to assure Harry that he, Ron, is to blame here, not Harry for not knowing a thing that’s everyday and ordinary to Weasleys.
“Your Wheezy, sir, your Wheezy — Wheezy who is giving Dobby his jumper!” Dobby plucked at the shrunken maroon sweater he was now wearing over his shorts. “What?” Harry gasped. “They’ve got… they’ve got Ron?” “The thing Harry Potter will miss most, sir!” squeaked Dobby.
“The silver doe was nothing, nothing compared with Ron’s reappearance, he could not believe it. Shuddering with cold, he caught up the pile of clothes still lying at the water’s edge and began to pull them on. As he dragged sweater after sweater over his head, Harry stared at Ron, half expecting him to have disappeared every time he lost sight of him, and yet he had to be real: he had just dived into the pool, he had saved Harry’s life.”
From being one of the most popular and admired people at the school, Harry was suddenly the most hated. Everywhere Harry went, people pointed and didn’t trouble to lower their voices as they insulted him.
I absolutely LOVE this idea. I can imagine that once Harry and Ron became some of the taller boys at the school they underestimated their size. I can totally picture the two of these silly guys falling to the floor in the hallways in fits of laughter, whether it’s because of something stupid that happened in class, or Fred and George playing pranks, or even the two of them enjoying justice against Malfoy.
This whole week since I received this, I have been trying to DRAW this image in my mind. I pictured Harry would be the type of person to actually fall to the floor and sprawl along the hall, even to the point where his glasses would fall off. But he wouldn’t care. Ron would probably be the type to lean backwards while he laughed until he leans against furniture or portraits or even the occasional first year who is short enough to grab on to! I even had enough detail in my mind to imagine their clothes all roughed up, and ties falling apart, but sadly I cannot draw. Despite this obvious lack of ability to draw clothes, hands, and legs/feet I’m actually really happy with how I drew Harry and Ron’s faces. I know they aren’t perfect (I never will be!) but I think it really encapsulates what I was picturing in my mind.
If anyone more talented would like to draw this too, I would love to see your take on these two idiots laughing it up in the hallways!
