I’m pretty sure the movies are the reason that people don’t ship Ron and Hermione as much as they did when the books first came out.
The movie made Harry and Hermione look like they were better friends, and belittled Harry and Ron’s friendship. I know I may be exaggerating a little, but the movie really did injustice to their friendship. The book showed how strong the bond between Harry and Ron was. You really understand that Harry would be nothing with Ron’s friendship. Ron has literally supported him since the beginning.
He was Harry’s first real friend, always willing to help him understand the Wizarding World. From the beginning, he has always had Harry’s back. When they had the first Wizarding Duel against Malfoy, Ron quickly became Harry’s second, even before Harry knew what he was doing. When Harry was nervous that he wouldn’t be able to beat Malfoy, Ron gave him hope saying that he should throw his wand away and punch him. Ron supported Harry when Harry became seeker. He had a bad feeling about the Mirror of Erised from the beginning, and telling Harry not to go back, even though it even showed him having everything he wants. He was willing to sacrifice himself in the game of chess to make sure the other two went on.
In Chamber of Secrets, even though he hates spiders, he went with Harry to save Aragog. In Prisoner of Azkaban, when he thinks Sirius is going to kill Harry, he immediately tells Sirius that he has to go through him before he can get to Harry. I’m not going to lie, in GoF he was really petty not trusting Harry. I mean, yeah he feels hurt that his best friend didn’t tell him, but he knew better than to think that Harry actually put his name in, like seriously. I was pretty mad that Ron doubted Harry, because we all know if Harry really did put his name in, Ron would have been the first to know, before anyone else. However, thankfully Ron still supported Harry, and didn’t try to spite him by supporting Cedric instead.
In OotP, both Ron and Hermione, took most of Harry’s anger and bad mood. They could have left him alone, but they supported him. They both made sure to show Harry we was not alone. In HBP, Ron supported Harry’s doing well in class, even though he thought the book was sketchy too. He wanted Harry to do well.
The movie doesn’t do justice at all to their friendship. If I were just to watch the movies, I wouldn’t have really seen Ron and Harry’s friendship as significant at all. I would have assumed that Harry and Hermione were going to end up together. That bothers me, because while I am a Romione shipper, but I don’t neccesarily have anything against Harry/Hermione, but I could never see them together romantically.
So yeah…just wanted to rant…thanks.
