I used to have a secret journal that I would write in everyday pretending that I went to Hogwarts. I would write about stupid things like going to classes or seeing Harry Ron and Hermione. Then I would write about being afraid of Snape and how some older kids snuck a Nintendo GameCube into the common room or how we had to throw a bucket of water on Ron to wake him up! Now that I think about it, It must have been quite fun to write in!

That sounds like it was very fun.

All I’m picturing in my head is an irate soaked-to-the-skin Ron, and a red-faced Hermione who’s staring at his now-transparent wet torso.

Me: *flings DVD copies of Harry Potter Movies at Steve Kloves’s head* RON! WEASLEY! DOESN’T! DESERVE! THIS!

Fuck these films!

It breaks my heart to this day that Rupert knew he was getting short-changed by the film series, but couldn’t do anything about it. Glad he’s finally getting recognition as the great actor he is, after getting sidelined and ignored for almost a decade.

If he’d been given more to do, he probably would have been considered the best young actor in the series by the wider world as the films were being made, rather than in retrospect. Instead, thanks to Steve Kloves’ incessant favouritism to Hermione and Emma Watson, Rupert spent the better part of ten years on the sidelines playing a b*st*rdised version of the book character that he loved so much.

Thankfully, he’s finally getting the attention and respect he deserves. But we’ll never get to see him play Ron as he should have been allowed to play him. And that is possibly the most tragic thing about it: what could have been
