It has come to my attention how close Harry and Luna really are, and their ship is so underated!!
Disclaimer: No, I am not saying this ship is better then others; no, I am not saying you absolutely have to ship them. I am not saying Harry only likes Luna or she’s the only one who makes him smile or she’s the only good friend he has(you’d think im exaggerating but their are a lot of people who’ll see it like that), etc.
I’ve never really understood why so many people ship Luna and Ginny- or Linny(?)- and not Harry and Luna. If you, however, don’t get how I could ever ship those two, I have reasons, and I’m going to listen them below!
Luna and Harry are very close, like very close(because apparently repeating something two times mean you really mean it).
Luna is one of the rare people who treat Harry like a regular human being, just plain ol’ Harry; not the famous Boy Who Lived! And I’m guessing that’s all Harry could ask for sometimes. I mean- he has his own problems with the Dursleys(in the beginning, anyway) and Voldermort I think the boy-who-lived attention got annoying at some point(??).
It’s not like he was constantly showered with attention, but still. Students still get excited when they see him(excludingThe Goblet of Fire), and let’s be honest: even Ron(slightly but not really Hermione) got a bit excited when they found out they were talking to Harry Potter.
Luna, however just saw him as Harry(you already said that you idiot). And it was a bit obvious Harry liked that.
Also, they had really good chemistry off screen and book-wise, which was kind of rare with certain characters, even Ron and Hermione at some times. Hell, Harry and Ginny relationship was just… Odd.
Ginny was odd on screen period, but that’ll be addressed in a different post.
Anywho, if you ever noticed, Harry usually had a genuine smile around Luna, has anyone else noticed that?? Or am I just laying way too much attention? Not saying that he gave fake smiles to everyone else(duh!!), just saying.
Sometimes, I think JK chose Luna as Harrys original love interest, but changed her mind. I mean, how close they are is insane!! Then again, friends can be that close to, so maybe I’m over analyzing.
But they did hold hands(next gif).
Anyway, if you’ve gotten this far, you’re one kewl witch or wizard(or non-binary magical being??).
If you want, please leave suggestions on what I should post next(no, it doesn’t have to be harry potter related)!!
With that being said…
Until next time, my friends!
Interesting. I ship Lunarry, but also Linny and Hinny (as well as Harry x Ginny x Luna in a poly ship). Thoughts, everybody?
Speaking of Ron and Hermione, I think that the films were responsible for their instances of iffy chemistry; since the screen-writer for all but one of the HP films (Steve Kloves) had something of a bias against Ron and seemed to want Hermione matched with virtually anyone except the person she canonically fell in love with.
Rupert’s acting is just perfect here.
As an added bonus; I can now look at this scene without cringing at Emma’s acting.
Book!Harry would just be chatting with film!Harry and realising that film Harry is way less sassy than he is (’Wait- you didn’t say ‘there’s no need to call me “sir”, professor’?) .
Book!Hermione would be staring suspiciously at film!Hermione, wondering why her bushy hair is non-existent, and getting irritated that she doesn’t have any real flaws (’you’re weren’t even socially awkward? That doesn’t seem…right’).
Meanwhile, film!Ron would be crying into book!Ron’s shoulder, sobbing about ‘how sorry he is’. Book!Ron would be softly patting his back, and whispering ‘it’s fine, it’s okay, it wasn’t your fault’.
Holy shit this is brilliant and I need more please!!
Book!Harry would be asking film!Harry for tips on how to make his hair look so smart and flat (Book!Harry is amazed because his own hair sticks up in all directions).
Book!Hermione keeps badgering film!Hermione about why she was dancing with film!Harry when they were in the tent after Ron left (’That makes no bl**dy sense! You danced with Viktor and Harry, but NOT Ron? What is wrong with you?’). Film!Hermione is feeling very confused about the way book!Hermione and book!Ron are bickering, because BOTH of them are being idiotic about it (and not just Ron).
Book!Ron is now talking about the cool stuff he got to do, because film!Ron is so happy that ONE of them didn’t get turned into a comedy sidekick. (Book!Ron is now pleading with book!Hermione that they let film!Ron stay at their place, because ‘the poor bloke has been through so much! He deserves a bit of happiness after all the cr*p Kloves put him through!’)
this is dope and no one will ever have enough im js
@elby9001 Thank you very much! I’ve still got plenty more to go! And thank you to @anecdotesbyayesha– I really appreciate that!
Book!Harry has started asking why film!Harry doesn’t have the same eye-colour as Lily Potter did, because why did everyone keep telling you that you’ve got your mum’s eyes if you don’t even have the same eye-colour as her? Did they mean the shape, or what?
Book!Hermione is now arguing with film!Hermione about why she’s acting as if she was in the right with the ‘Lavender’ situation in sixth year. (’Me and Ron were both being idiots! We set a flock of birds on him for goodness’ sake; we are not the innocent party here!’)
Book!Ron is now telling film!Ron jokes and funny stories about the golden trio to cheer him up, and is making sure the poor guy has some chocolate to eat. (’No way, Hermione blushed pink when you absentmindedly told her you loved her? That’s so adorable! Merlin, you two are so cute together!’).
Do one with Ginny and Ronks and Fleur and everyone! And Jily (they looked so old in the movies like wtf).
@anecdotesbyayesha– Of course, here you go! (Thank you to everyone who’s commented thus far on this post- I’m glad you all like it!)
At this point,
book!Ginny is asking film!Ginny ‘do you
even have a personality?’ and film!Ginny replies ‘well, I tied Harry’s shoes one time….’
Book!Tonks is confused
as to why film!Tonks had so much of her back-story cut out, and book!Remus is
confused as to why film!Remus is so old (‘We’re
supposed to be in our thirties, why do you look old enough to be my dad?…’).
Book!Fleur is wondering
what film!Fleur’s deal is, because she really
doesn’t have much going on…
Book!Percy is wondering
whether film!Percy re-united with his family properly.
Book!Mad-eye doesn’t understand why his film counterpart is an android.
Book!Dumbledore is
explaining what “calmly” means to film!Dumbledore.
Book!James and
book!Lily are trying not to laugh at their film counterparts because ‘you’re old enough to be my parents!’ ‘Oh, Lily, look- this version of you doesn’t
even have the same eye-colour as Harry!’
Book!Charlie and
book!Ludo Bagman can’t find their counterparts anywhere…
Book!Draco is
incredibly jealous of how good-looking film!Draco is. He’s also shocked at
film!Draco having a dark mark branded onto his arm.
Film!Draco thinks book!Draco
is somewhat muted, whilst Book!Draco thinks film!Draco is waaay over-dramatic
and a bit of a drama queen. Also, the ‘my father will hear about this’ thing is
a point of contention.
Both are envious of the
other’s hair.
i laughed so hard. yes this is what i needed in my life
bonus:
Book!Sirius and Film!Sirius: DAAAAAAAAAAMMMMNNNNNNNNNN SOMEONE CALL 911 THERE IS A MAN HERE TOO HANDSOME FOR THIS WORLD. Dang bro even dead you’re smoking.
Aww, thanks @secreteenagekid; glad you liked this thread. And I am 100% behind that book!Sirius and film!Sirius exchange and the Remus exchange in your tags.
This got everything better. May I add..??
Book!Snape and Film!Snape spot each other through a window and don’t immediately realize they’re not looking in a mirror
You may indeed add that. That is gold.
@smarklepotter asked
for more of Book!Ginny and film!Ginny, and Luna meeting her film counterpart.
Hope you like them!
Book!Ginny meets
film!Ginny;
Book!Ginny: Are you
seriously nothing but a cringey love interest for Harry? Were you even friends
with him before you started dating?
Film!Ginny: Hey, it
wasn’t my fault the screenwriter was a Harmione shipper! You don’t think I
wanted what Rowling gave for you to do?! I’m just happy that I still got to
play Quidditch, even if it was only a couple of scenes…
Book!Luna meets
film!Luna;
They get along like a
house on fire. They actually organised an expedition to find Nargles next
summer. Although book!Luna was a little surprised by how much not-quite-just-platonic
moments film!Luna was given with Harry in OOTP.
@headcanonsandmore Yes! It’s perfect and I knew I wasn’t crazy when I saw the Huna scenes in OotP! It’s like they were purposefully hinting at something more than friendship
@smarklepotter I KNOW, RIGHT! OOTP was shipping them so hard!
I didn’t even consider these two together until I saw this film. Spend most of the run-time thinking ‘okay, I don’t Cho is the Ravenclaw girl that Harry likes…’
Luna and Harry would have been so cute, especially considering that the two actors had so much chemistry together. Dan and Evanna both thought Luna and Harry were gonna end up together in the films. Can’t say I blame them, considering all the not-just-platonic moments they were given together.
Aaaand then Steve Kloves came back to write HBP, pushed more Harmione-baiting scenes into the script and used Luna as a punchline for Harry’s “someone cool” line. Yay….
I love how Harry just genuinely likes Luna. Not in a romantic way, but in a “I don’t know how or why but I get you and you get me and I’d be honored to call you a friend and if anyone messes with you I’ll wallop them” kind of a way. I think he just marvels at her level of don’t give a fuck and her absolute sense of self. And then he and Ginny partially name their daughter after her (Lily Luna) and that to me is just fucking precious.
You have to at least ship their friendship.
It’s because Luna leaves him alone. Harry feels upset? Luna talks about her newest theory on whatever magical creature she believes exists. He feels down and depressed? Luna distracts him by talking about Amazon river spirits. Luna gives Harry what he needs, in that she reminds him he is not the center of the universe. That’s what he wants. Harry never wanted to be the savior of the Wizarding World. He never wanted any of it, and he hates that his parents died for a prophecy about him, and he hates thinking about his miserable childhood.
Everyone else keeps accidentally reminding Harry of who he has to be.
Luna is so absorbed in knowing she never once cares about his name as a legend. He’s Harry, her nice friend who holds her shoes for her when she wants to walk barefoot in the woods so she doesn’t startle the moss-people.And he never complains about her oddities, like so many people, and she appreciates that. And for him, she’s Luna, the friend who just needs him to hold her shoes for her. Luna never wants anything from him but for Harry to hold her things and listen to her talk and give his own input to her theories, mad as they might be at times. When Harry is with Luna, it’s always these quiet, content moments. She’s a bit mad, yeah, but she gets him. And he gets her.
Harry will fight anyone who calls her “Loony Lovegood”. Even though she doesn’t care, he does.
