if by ‘’vanilla’’ ships you mean ships with a healthy amount of respect, trust and love for eachother, then yes. i love vanilla ships. i am the queen of all things vanilla. my name is vanilla.
1- Patronus? No idea. I’m not on Pottermore. Probably a dog or a hedgehog.
7- Top five ships?
Romione (Ron and Hermione)- my OTP.
Lunarry (Luna and Harry). I like Hinny, but I honestly think this would have made more sense character-wise.
Linny. They’re so sweet, and balance each other out so well.
Linuarry (Poly ship throuple with Harry, Luna and Ginny all dating each other). I honestly feel this is the best outcome, since they all balance each other out brilliantly.
Rarry (as an AU, or happening in the post-war years in a poly ship with Romione, as in Harry and Hermione both being in love with Ron).
13- Character you most identify with? Probably a mixture of Ron (insecurities, self-doubts and loyalty), Hermione (book-worm tendencies) and Neville (used to get bullied and had low self-esteem).
32- Favorite friendship? Probably Harry and Ron. I suppose I could also say the golden trio, but Harry and Hermione just don’t have the same connection that Harry and Ron have. Harry and Ron are platonic (almost romantic) soul-mates in so many ways, and care for each other so much. My BROTP, if you will.
I like Luna as a second choice for both of them, but Ginny and Harry are soulmates. They have the same fire in them. They’re both incredibly talented and powerful. Ginny can always hold her own, which is was Harry was attracted to in her in the first place. They’re both fantastic at Quidditch. They’re both very witty and sharp and share a dark sense of humor. They can keep up with each other. Their true equals, and they understand each other perfectly. Like when Ginny didn’t whine and cry when Harry told her that he had to go after Voldemort. How she became leader of the DA and held fort in his stead. And Ginny became a famous Quidditch star so she understands his fame. Being realistic, I don’t think anyone can match up to what they have.
Funnily enough, I couldn’t help but to think of how much these soulmate qualities can apply to Luna/Lunarry too.
1. Luna has fire and we’ve seen it most prominently in book 5, especially in regard to Hermione when the other is patronizing her, and also when someone says something against her dad. It’s not a stretch at all to believe that fire would extend to whoever hurts her friends. But aside from fire, Luna also has a calmness to her that Ginny lacks at times. Harry is all fire, sometimes fire with fire is not good. Sometimes you need to douse that fire with water, and Luna would be that girl.
2. Luna can hold her own too. Luna was actually the last one of the group to be knocked out in the Department of Mysteries (only Neville and Harry were left, for obvious reasons). She saved both Ron and Ginny from Death Eaters, and she did it all without gaining a single scratch.
3. Luna may not play Quidditch, but she definitely supports it, which I feel is just as important. She created a Gryffindor Lion Hat just to support Harry and her friends, and often times, the roar of the lion hat makes Harry feel more cheerful, which is a great thing to feel when you’re in the middle of a stressful game. With Luna, Harry will know for sure she’s there supporting him and he will feel heartened by her support.
4. Luna is quite witty (even if she at times may not mean to be, but she’s made Ron and Harry laugh a few times), and she’s definitely intelligent, given that she was the one who figured out how they should get to the DoM, and it was Luna out of all the Ravenclaws, who was able to think outside the box enough to suggest to Harry that he search for the Lost Diadem of Ravenclaw.
5. Harry and Luna have a unique understanding of one another as well. Luna is very perceptive and understands often times how Harry must be feeling, she even knew who he was underneath a disguise because of an expression on his face. It was Luna who was able to make Harry think outside his own grief for a moment after Sirius, when nobody else could, even without trying, and it was Harry out of Ron and Hermione, who believed Luna would be strong enough to resist azkaban and would be keeping spirits up if she were there. And while she turned out not to be in prison, she was keeping spirits up in the dungeons with Ollivander, Griphook and Dean, something Ollivander was immensely grateful for.
6. If Harry wants a girl who doesn’t cry often, Luna too fits the bill. Luna has a deeper understanding about loss, so even if she feels sad, I believe she’d be able to keep it together in the face of tragedy, something even Harry cannot always do.
7. Ginny did not become the sole leader of the DA. It was actually Neville, Luna and Ginny. And when Ginny had to flee and Luna was kidnapped, Neville held down the forte on his own.
8. Luna became a well known wizarding naturalist who discovered many new creatures, no doubt creating a name for herself. But while Luna may or may not understand fame, she has never been phased by it with Harry, from day one, she’s always treated him like just another person, something Harry is sure to appreciate. Also, Luna was the first to understand that Harry would have loved peace and quiet after his battle with Voldemort and she distracts everyone while he goes to find a place to relax.
Overall, Luna can easily be as much of a good woman for Harry as Ginny was set up to be. Lunarry4life. ❤
Luna could also be the water to Ginny’s fire as well. Either in just a relationship between her and Ginny, or in a poly ship with Harry (which I call Linuarry).
(Luna walks past Harry and Ginny)
Ginny: (Sigh)….she’s gorgeous…
Harry: (nodding) I know, right!
I’ve got nothing against Harry/Ginny, but I wish JKR had fleshed out Ginny’s pre-romantic relationship with Harry a bit more. We read and see from Harry’s POV almost exclusively, but it’s only in HBP that we see him feeling something more towards her. Maybe JKR was more concerned about staying on track with the bigger plot, but I thought it kind of cheap because it was so sudden and escalated so quickly. It could’ve had more emotional depth. Both characters deserved better than that, I think.
Both characters should be with other people I feel.
Still think Lunarry should have been endgame.
I like the Hinny pairing, but if Harry did end up with anyone-else except Ginny, Luna would make the most sense. Or maybe have Luna with both Harry and Ginny in an adorable poly relationship (which I call Linuarry).
Can Lunarry/Huna shippers please reblog this post, so we can all find each-other?
So I was all for them being platonic friends (except for when I’m shipping Harry x Luna x Ginny because they just work together) and then I rewatched the movies. Their conversations with the thestrals and overall just cuteness! When I read the books the last time, I felt like Harry was a little condescending towards Luna. Like they patronized her and just pretended to believe her. But they were so cute in the movies! I think they’d be much better than movie Ginny x Harry. (Their relationship always seemed a little rushed to me. I feel like J.K. could have fleshed it out a bit more, laid down a bread crumb trail for us to follow until we landed in a clearing with them together as a couple and it just made sense (kind of how she did with Ron and Hermione))
I love Harry x Luna x Ginny as well! I think they all balance each-other out really well- it’s one of my favourite poly ships.
Oh yeah- the movies (especially OOTP) really played up how good their relationship was. Maybe it was something to do with Daniel Radcliffe and Evanna Lynch having such a good rapport with each-other. Apparently, both actors thought that their characters would end up together.
And you can see their point. I honestly spent most of this film thinking ‘I’m pretty sure Harry fancies Luna rather than Cho…’
I think the film-makers spent most of the early films not doing much with Ginny, and then tried to overcompensate when HBP came out, and they realised Harry would end up with Ginny. It was too much of a shift to make it seem believable, since film!Harry barely talked to Ginny before the sixth film. I think he had an average of two lines speaking to her, compared to the books where he was often talking to her. At least with Ron and Hermione, they had some time to develop it (even if they took away most of Ron’s greatest moments and gave them to Hermione).
I don’t understand why people who ship people hinny/romione/canon ships in general get so worked up and angry about fanon ships. All these snide posts and “friendly reminders” just scream “I don’t get why you would have interests that are different to mine!!!” which is not only stupid but unnecessary like your ship is canon dude calm down
I ship both canon and fanon ships (Romione, Lunarry, Linny and Luna x Harry x Ginny especially). I don’t hate on people for shipping fanon pairings. What I don’t like is when people use the ships as a way of bashing other characters (like when some-but NOT all- Dramione and Harmony fanfics turn Ron- or Ginny- into abusive jerks as a way of getting them out of the picture).
