Do you see Romione and Peraltiago as very similar? I saw a post about how Peraltiago is like a grownup, non-magic Romione and mostly agreed. What do you think are the main things they have in common and their main differences?

Oh, no, I don’t.

Jake is funny, a bit irresponsible, loyal, kind, smart but not in a obvious way. Ron is funny, loyal, a bit immature, strategic.

Amy is smart, responsible, a perfectionist and loves reading. Hermione is sharp, well-read, intelligent, responsible, capable.

I can see how Jake/Ron and Amy/Hermione have similar personalities, and how Jake/Amy and Ron/Hermione have similar dynamics.

However, while Amy is kind, compassionate, open-minded, warm, and a good rule-follower, Hermione is cunning, often lacks empathy, and can be aggressive, closed-minded and mean.

I think Hermione sometimes disrespected and belittled Ron, but Amy and Jake have an extremely respectful and supportive relationship. It’s not that Ron and Hermione don’t respect and support each other, but their bickering could turn nasty and intense pretty fast.

Hermione and Ron were also terrible at communicating their feelings, while Jake and Amy managed much better.

Naturally, Hermione and Ron were teenagers so I can cut them some slack. Still, Jake and Amy have a sweet, relaxed and companionable dynamic that Ron and Hermione never had in the books.

Peraltiago is by far the superior ship. I don’t really like to think of them as similar, tbh. But I can’t say they aren’t.

Thanks for the ask!

I don’t watch B99 (don’t kill me) but I’ve seen a lot of Romione shippers compare it to Jake/Amy.

Thoughts?

It’s similar in the broad respect of ‘nerdy girl and funny guy’, but the similarities disappear when you get down to the nitty-gritty. Amy is far nicer to Jake than Hermione is to Ron, and the former’s relationship is a lot easier, with far less unpleasantness. Like OP says, Jake and Amy are both adults; they’re not teenagers struggling with emerging feelings for their best friend, like Ron and Hermione are.

Also, I’m pretty sure Amy never physically attacked Jake.

Jake x Amy is similar to how I’d like Ron x Hermione to be; a supportive, caring relationship based on mutual respect. If anything, it’s what Ron x Hermione could have been if JK Rowling hadn’t been so biased towards Hermione and used Ron as the butt-monkey for the HP series.

That’s just my two cents on the matter, though.

@headcanonsandmore Thanks for sharing your thoughts. What about the “their bickering could turn nasty pretty fast”? I actually don’t remembering Ronmione’s bickering becoming “nasty”, but I might be wrong.

Ron and Hermione also had a sweet dynamic (when Ron said that he’d swear she’s his cousin, when he was fretting about the fate of the Cattermoles and Hermione was looking at him tenderly, etc.) I also believe that there were missing moments when Ron and Hermione were very sweet and relaxed around each other.

I think they mean ‘Hermione’s bickering got nasty pretty fast’. She’s usually the person to throw the metaphorical first punch. With the exception of the Yule Ball, Ron isn’t normally the one escalating an argument into being nasty. Hermione often escalated things by straight-up insulting Ron or belittling him. Although I’ll chalk that up to her confusion over her own feelings towards Ron, such as her irritation that he wasn’t picking up on her (incredibly subtle) hints that she liked him.

With you on that; I think (because the books are from Harry’s POV) we miss out on a lot of their one-on-one moments. There were probably lots of sweet moments that we didn’t get to see. And they are relaxed and sweet around each other for most of the time; it’s usually just jealousy getting in the way when their arguments turn nasty. .

@ronandhappiness I wasn’t trying to imply that Ron and Hermione didn’t love each other, or weren’t devoted and loyal to each other. They had good moments: their first kiss, for example. However, if I’m to compare Peraltiago with Romione, I honestly have to bring up how Peraltiago is a much more mature and mutually supportive relationship than Romione.

Hermione unleashed a flock of birds on Ron, as revenge. He had cuts all over his body afterwards! Hermione was extremely cruel, and unacceptably abusive. There are other, milder, examples of Hermione being dismissive, condescending or insulting to Ron. And Ron isn’t perfect either – just better imo. Ron feels more empathy for people than Hermione does.

@headcanonsandmore I mostly agree with what you said! I think you got what I meant. Ron and Hermione could’ve been a lot more like Peraltiago if only J.K. Rowilng wasn’t so shitty to Ron sometimes!

Thanks for voicing your thoughts!

@siriuslyprongx Don’t mention it, your post was really interesting, and I loved discussing this. Yeah, Rowling really did wring Ron through the blender, didn’t she. Poor bloke…
