my thoughts on ron weasley ships
ron and astoria: so this is probably the ron/oc-who-is-a-slytherin ship. I like the idea of ron befriending a slytherin so brotp I guess. i read a rostoria one-shot once and I loved it so much. i’ve also read a drastoria fic where draco was jealous of ron and astoria’s friendship, and expressing his sadness about ron being better than him and I was,,,,,,living because draco’s tears are food for my soul!!!!! of course, i dropped that fic when astoria started telling him that he was better than ron. astoria, stop lying, sweetie.
ron and blaise: this ship doesn’t make any sense to me and i didn’t know it was a thing until recently. ron and blaise don’t interact at all in canon and it’s not a very good ship considering that blaise thinks that the weasleys are, “filthy bloodtraitors.” i’ve mostly seen it as a side-pairing in dra/rry fics and it’s sorted of added as an afterthought, like, “oh right, ron also exists. let’s just put him with blaise.” I call those fics OBSF (one big slytherdor family) because all of the slytherins and gryffindors are paired together. dra/rry, pans/mione, bl/on, etc…trash pairings stick together i suppose. p.s. not adding the ‘happy’ because there’s no way ron, harry, and hermione would be happy with their enemies.
ron and draco: i think this ship came into existence because tom felton said he had a crush on rupert grint. i could see it being one-sided. draco secretly liking ron. unrequited love. it’s still a notp though. i have never been a fan of shipping the bully with the victim and I despise the ‘enemies to lovers’ trope. draco did so many horrible things to ron and i will never bring myself to see past that. he nearly killed ron. he mocked him for his economic status. he fat-shamed his mother. he called the love of his life a slur. he bullied his best friend. unless writing mock-songs for someone is a sign of love, then this ship is trash. if you’re thinking along the lines of, “well, ron did mean things to draco,” then, double the reason not to ship it, honey. i’ve read some dron fics, but you can’t make it happen unless ron is extremely out of character. ron hates draco. he might feel sorry for him but he would never forgive him. having said that, i’ve written a meta about how similar draco and ron are. they are essentially mirror images of each other. ron is everything draco fans wish he was. ron is what draco could’ve been if he possessed even a teaspoon of ronald’s courage, his compassion and his heart. i can understand a frienemy dynamic between those two and if you want to explore that, then good for you, but anything more…and i’m out faster than you can say quidditch.
ron and ginny: fuck you cassandra claire. fuck you. and fuck your robot followers and anyone who supports this ship in any form.
ron and harry: now this is very promising!! all of the best love stories start with a strong friendship and ronarry is a strong friendship. although, to be honest, my opinion of this ship fluctuates because some days, i’m all for the brotp while some days, I just want them to end up married because they are,,,,,,soulmates. i ship it in an au setting because even though i’m very critical of romione, I can’t separate ron and hermione or harry and ginny. it physically hurts me to ship ron and harry in a world where hermione and ginny exist. i wouldn’t enjoy seeing how upset the girls would be in that context; both having to see the boys they like, end up with their brothers. my love for ronarry is born out of my love for ron weasley and confusion at not seeing enough appreciation for the beautiful friendship between harry james potter and ron weasley.
ron and hermione: i’ve shipped ron/hermione since I was ten and it will always have a special place in my heart. i do not ship a super duper insecure ron who will be a doormat with an abusive hermione who gets away with everything she does. it’s not the nerdy girl and dumb guy ship. it’s a beautiful relationship between two people who challenge each other; a ruthless girl with a heart of gold, who softens her edges, and a nurturing and funny guy who helps her loosen up. i’m a sucker for slow burn. i love it when two characters flirt with each other without realising it. i love it when two stubborn but smitten fools, go through the denial stage, to the point that you just want to trap them in a room and refuse to let them out until they confess their feelings for each other. I love the “oh wow things are actually getting somewhere oh wait where did this plot twist come from help me” stage, which is why half blood prince is my favourite book. I love it when two characters have a beautiful bickering dynamic, but they know that underneath the teasing and sarcastic remarks, they are crazy for each other. it may seem like i’m only here for ron. my love for romione is partially born out of my love for ron weasley, but it’s more than that. I love it for the message it delivers. for ron, it represents that your heart and your personality exceeds your fame and fortune. for hermione, it proves that (as crazy as it may sound), there might be someone out there who wouldn’t only love your positive attributes, but also be strangely into your huge, glaring flaws. i’ve always loved the fact that a normal teenage boy, fell in love with a plain-looking girl who constantly nagged and drove him crazy, instead of a pretty girl who worshipped him. it’s a love story with themes of forgiveness, and acceptance, and redemption, and healing, and growth. they represent hope and that first impressions aren’t always correct. there is no use pretending that romione is a perfect ship, and that’s great, because i don’t want it to be perfect.
ron and lavender: oh boy do I have opinions about this!!! firstly, jk rowling did not do a good job with this. harry got some romance. so did hermione. but ron’s relationship was not treated with respect. jkr tried so hard to make him look undesirable and portrayed his relationship with lavender as important as a wet shoelace. it seemed like she was punishing him for getting a girlfriend. too bad she failed because i’m not going to condemn ron for dating lavender. ron wanted to show that even he was desirable and here she was; fluttering her eyelashes, laughing at his jokes, with her arms opened. a girl showed interest in him and he reciprocated. if ginny is so cool and awesome for moving on by dating dean and michael, then why is ron worse than voldemort for trying to move on from hermione by dating lavender? i don’t get it. secondly, i loathe love triangles where one person is presented as the obvious bad option and the other person is the “”“"good”“”“ option and the middle person is such an ,,,,idiot,,,, for not picking the good option. people give ron and lavender more shit than they deserve. lavender was “clingy” but I guarantee you, if I were dating ron weasley, you’d have to pry him away from my cold dead hands. even I would consider a moment not kissing him, a moment wasted. even I would be suspicious if my boyfriend started spending time with a girl who unleashed a flock of birds on him. yes, lavender liked nicknames, cheesy gifts, giggling, and enjoyed being intimate with her boyfriend in public and so what? don’t hate her for being girly. you’re also a hypocrite if you shame ron for interfering in ginny’s love life when you’re doing the same thing to lavender brown. that being said, obviously this wasn’t a good relationship because one person gave more than the other. i have a headcanon where lavender was questioning her feelings for parvati and using ron as her beard. i like to think that later, ron and lavender had a conversation where they realised that they weren’t right people for each other. lavender confessed that she was using him because she was confused about parvati and ron admitted his feelings for hermione. they decided to be friends and nobody’s heart was broken. the end. (psa this blog stans the queen that is lavender brown and the underappreciated ship that is larvati. lavender bashing is why i dislike most romione fan fiction.)
ron and luna: aka the purest of them all. i lowkey ship ron with luna. she is my favourite female character and I adore her friendship with ron. they have a wicked sense of humour and ron finds her fascinating. however, i prefer them in a platonic relationship. there are many ron fans who believe that luna had a crush on ron and that’s fantastic but I don’t. it’s such a pure ship and I don’t want it to be contaminated by jealousy or crushes. but hey, if you ship it and support the ‘luna had a crush on ron’ theory, then all power to you! fun fact: back in the day, runa had a rap in the fandom because it was popular amongst harmonians and seen as “dump ship” so hermione could be free with harry. lmaoooo. i can confirm this :’) loads of harry/hermione shippers in the runa tag.
ron and mcgonagall: i don’t know what’s wrong with the harry potter fandom. no joke, this was one of the first ships i encountered when I joined the online fandom and i literally cried. I believe this ship became popular because of that dancing scene in the GoF movie. ron danced with his teacher but not with the love of his life. go fuck a cactus, steve kloves.
ron and neville: ronnev is a ship that everyone would stan. harry would be the captain of this ship. ginny would cut anyone who hurts these gryffindor softies. it would be so pure that it would remove a layer of ice surrounding hermione’s heart. luna lovegood would paint portraits of these two and everyone will be happy because that’s the power of this ship. in all seriousness, similar thoughts as runa. it’s a decent friendship in my eyes, but if you ship it then you have great taste! i also like that it’s called, “red vines.” as long as the lady characters aren’t bashed, i support your fan fiction!
ron and padma: um…..i guess this is a ron/oc-who-is-a-ravenclaw ship because we barely know anything about padma. however, this was part of cursed child and ayesha no like cursed child. i will also never forgive cc!ron for naming his child ‘panju.’ seriously, ron? was it so difficult to name your child raju? or rahul? or rancholdas shamaldas chanchat? fuck you.
ron and pansy: i don’t know why this ship exists. it absolutely disgusts me. most people only ship it so ron can get out of the way and hermione can bone her true soulmate aka snape or lucius!!!! i’ll forever be bitter that my baby is shipped with one of the worst characters in the books. ron should not be reduced to a tool to redeem pansy parkinson. ron deserves better. i don’t give a shit how misunderstood and beautiful and “redeemed” your fanon!pansy is. in the books, she is a racist, misogynist and a fucking voldemort supporter and ron would never spare her his time. i would never ship ron with a character as repellent as pansy parkinson. some people also ship them with hermione in an ot3. smh way to make a fool out of both ron and hermione. on the other hand, if we’re talking about au settings, then i have no issues, but i’ll be side-eyeing you forever because why pick pansy parkinson when luna lovegood is right there!!!!
ron and romilda: yep, this is also a thing. yes, you can cry *passes you a tissue* most people probably don’t know about this ship but i’m adding it because it was a side pairing in a fremione fic that I read a long time ago. it haunts me to this day. suuuuuure. of course ron would want to be with the girl who indirectly poisoned him. romance confirmed!!! match made in heaven!!!!
ron and snape: ….just……..why? once I found some golden snon/sneasley bullshit in the ron weasley tag and then i cried with vivi. that being said, I read their meta and I have to admit, it was intriguing, but you can explore their dynamic (ron being his potions apprentice or ron’s chess skills impressing snape or whatever) without making it romantic, you nasties. keep ron weasley out of this.
ron and susan: oh, look! a ron ship that doesn’t make me vomit. this must be the ron/oc-who-is-a-hufflepuff ship. i get a lot of sunshine and flowers vibes from this. i like susan bones; she’s an underrated minor character, henceforth, I support this ship. i have see a lot of dra/miones ship this though, so minus points for that. at least ron gets a nice person in those fics. can’t say the same for hermione!
ron and viktor: i don’t like this ship. viktor krum is a character that i don’t like for reasons I can’t explain but he creeps me out. he was just a plot device in the books and i don’t care about his friendship or romance with ron weasley. i don’t mind reblogging the fan art and it’s okay if you ship it, but it’s not my cup of tea. just don’t expect me to share vikron headcanons and we’ll get along.
