12. Can they stand silence? Who talks the most? Who talks the least?

Absolutely. Ron and Hermione have known each other and have been friends since they were 11 – they definitely are more than comfortable just being around one another and don’t feel the need to fill every moment with conversation. Not to mention that they’re also highly adept at having silent conversations with one another. Blame it on the time they spent in 5th year trying to avoid Harry’s outbursts or the months on the run while searching for Horcruxes where they were rarely alone. Hell, even their bickering is a form of communication (and, if you ask me, foreplay, but that’s a whole other thing).

Depending on the topic, either of them could dominate the conversation at any point in time. For example, if it’s Quidditch related, Ron can wax poetic for hours. Hermione finds the topic terribly boring, but she genuinely enjoys listening to Ron speak so enthusiastically about it. But if you bring up Arithmancy or Ancient Runes (who would bring either of those things up organically in conversation other than Hermione, who knows) she will talk ad nauseam. One time, Ron literally fell asleep. Hermione was less than pleased.

The thing is, conversation between Hermione and Ron has always been easy and they can talk to each other about things that they can’t talk to others about, not even Harry. When they were growing up, Ron felt more comfortable opening up to Hermione about some of his insecurities about his family and being second best (which I believe is why Hermione was so spot-on in her explanation of Ron’s behavior towards Harry during the Triwizard Tournament). Hermione was able to talk to Ron about her fears surrounding her muggleborn status and opened up to him about her plans to try and keep her family safe. Ron wasn’t just utilizing some tip he may have read about in the 12 Fail-Safe Ways to Charm Witches book when he comforted Hermione – she came to him first, scared and alone, and Ron… well, he loves her. He knew how scared she was because they had talked a lot about their fears. He was scared, too, but they had each other.

9. Quickest turn-ons? Immediate turn-offs?

I feel like I could write a million different things that turn each other on. I’ll stick with three apiece, however, in the interest in time (and sanity haha)

– Ron loves when Hermione bites her lip. It all goes back to when they were in school and he would watch as she would bite her lower lip while studying. He had many a fantasy about being alone in the restricted section with her late at night, surrounded by low candlelight, rolls of parchment scattered across a long table, and Hermione biting her lip over and over again – first as she’s studying, and then later in response to him and the work he does to her…

– Ron also loves getting Hermione riled up. They fight a whole lot less after they’re together officially but sometimes, Ron kinda secretly misses it. He likes seeing her passion and the way her face flushes when she gets going, so from time to time, he’ll purposely mess with her. Hermione catches on to his tactics at a certain point but lets him believe she’s none the wiser. The small disputes kinda turn her on as well, if for no other reason than the making up bit at the end.

– Also, Ron really loves seeing Hermione in high heels. She doesn’t wear them often and usually, it’s only for some sort of Ministry event or when she’s presenting at the Wizenagamot. But when she does, she sort of walks with more authority. Her legs look a bit longer, her bum a bit higher, and the way they make a clicking noise on the floor as she moves… it just kills him every single time.

– As for Hermione, we’ve seen in canon that she kinda loses it whenever Ron gets protective and shows concern for others. It just reminds her of how insanely lucky she is and how unbelievably good he is. As they get older, this morphs into any time she sees him being a loving uncle to their nieces and nephews, and then later, him being a father to their children. So, yeah. For Hermione, it’s everything. Ron just does it for her haha

– This may or may not be slightly influenced by DH pt 1, but Hermione really has a thing for Ron’s forearms. He used to be a little self-conscious about the scars he received from the brains at the battle at the Ministry in their 5th year, but Hermione loves to trace them with her fingertips. His scars show how brave her husband is and that he’s still here, despite all the danger they survived. Also, real talk? She likes seeing him in a button up with the sleeves rolled up. It just does something for her. She can’t really explain it and it makes Ron laugh, but still.

– Lastly, the way Ron says her name in the mornings after he’s just woken up absolutely makes her go mad. His voice is all scratchy from sleep and lack of use, his hair sticks out every which way, and he can sometimes barely keep his eyes open as he reaches for her (by the way, Ron is a MASSIVE morning snuggler. He always hopes to convince Hermione to skive off work and have a lay-in, but also, he’s just super affectionate). But the way he says her name –  somewhere between a moan and a whisper – it drives her absolutely barmy. More often than not, Ron wins the battle and gets her to ignore her alarm for at least a bit longer. And Merlin help her when he breaks out the almost always fatal whispered, “Mione…”

No one else gets to call Hermione by a nickname and no one else ever will. EXCEPT for Ron. And goodness knows that he is aware of this fact and takes full advantage of it.

Immediate turn-offs? Hermione being a massive brat and saying, “I told you so!” or any time Ron gets angry and won’t explain why, but gets moody about it. Both of them call each other out on their bad behaviors pretty quickly, especially early on in the relationship, and as time goes on, they both learn how to be more patient and better communicators. No more pettiness or purposeful ignoring of the other in an effort to gain some sort of invisible upper hand. As Ron always says, they’ve been through way too much bullshit to get caught up in that anymore. They love each other, they’re a team, and they’re in this for the long haul.

Um, so yeah! I really had a lot of fun writing these! Totally reminds me that I need to stop procrastinating and get back to updating my Romione WIPs…
