Honestly, the question I really need JK Rowling to answer most is what are Veela? Are they birds who look humanoid, hominids with avian characteristics, or something else? If they are hominids, are they a subspecies of human or something else? Do they lay eggs or give live birth?

Also, are there any male Veelas? Do Veela attract all men regardless of sexuality or gender identity? Are the Veelas powers dependent on who the Veela wants to attract (as in, a wlw Veela would attract women)? Is there a stigma about Veelas forging relationships with human men? Do Veela powers get less powerful as the bloodline gets weaken due to marrying humans?

A concept…

There’s an alternative universe out there where Fleur’s Veela powers effected women rather than men, leading to several very awkward conversations between Hermione and Ron during fourth year.

Okay. Interesting discussion question, actually.

So, veela powers. I generally see it assumed that they function based on who the target is attracted to–so if you’re attracted to women, veelas and veela-descended women affect you, and if you’re attracted to men, veela-descended men affect you.

What if it’s based on who the veela is attracted to, instead?

So the reason Fleur only affects the boys is because Fleur is straight. The reason that only the dudes at the World Cup were affected wasn’t a lack of lesbians in the crowd, it was a lack of lesbians among the mascots?

That would… honestly make a lot more sense from the veela’s point of view. If you’re a magical creature that makes your living magically seducing humans, obviously the humans’ preference in the matter doesn’t matter that much to you.

(It could also create a considerably entertaining flustering for Hermione in the GoF AU under discussion.)

(Also, Fleur/Hermione? Possibly the most plausible woman/Hermione ship I’ve encountered.)

*Piques Interest since I write Ginny/Luna when I have time.*

Not gonna lie, I feel a lot of schadenfreude for the idea that Hermione starts acting like an idiot in front of Fleur, feeling incredibly guilty once Fleur leaves the room, and Ron just shrugging (albeit a little jealously) whilst saying “Fleur makes all girls act like that; it’s not your fault, Hermione”.

Also, Ginny and Luna falling in love after they realise that they both fancy girls (thanks to Fleur’s powers).

Didnt she try to use her veela charm on him?

Yeah, during the run-up to the Yule Ball. She tried to ask him using her powers, but her aim was a little off and Ron got the full force of it. Which is presumably why Fleur was so shocked about Ron then asking her to the ball.

However, it’s quite common (in my experience, at least) to have a brief crush on someone, and then become closer to them after you get over it. I have seen headcanons about Cedric and Fleur becoming close friend during GOF (many of them taking place in AU’s where Cedric is part Veela as well, and that’s one of things him and Fleur bond over).

fleur is such a strong and loyal person and i won’t stand for any of the hp females ganging up on her

#why did hermione ginny and molly hate fleur?

I can only take some guesses.

I love Mrs. Weasley to death, but I have to admit she had a problem with acknowledging her children were growing up/grown. It likely wasn’t a problem with Fleur herself but rather any girl that was taking her baby away. That she was French might have had something to do with it, I cannont speak to Mrs. Weasley’s prejudices. There’s also the fact that Fleur is part Veela and Molly is concerned Bill’s heart wasn’t won in a strictly kosher way.

Ginny, I love her too, but honestly I think she’s just being bratty. This girl is taking her big bro away, plus there’s going to be all this extra work for the wedding, and she’s not happy.

Hermione I’m most sure about. I think she is working off a preconceived notion of hers. That people who are pretty and care a lot about their appearance are petty and shallow. She was probably bullied by such girls in her muggles schooling. She’s certainly made no strides to befriend Lavender and Pavrati, despite being the first witches her age she had regular contact with, likely because they are appearance conscious, so she’s lumped them into that trope.

I always thought Hermione didn’t like Fleur because her Veela powers (unintentionally) had an effect on Ron (just look at the way Hermione gets angry whenever Fleur’s Veela powers made Ron lightheaded in GOF and HBP). Despite the fact that neither Ron nor Fleur wanted that to happen. Heck, Ron probably hated himself for getting caught up by the Veela powers, and Fleur probably knew that Ron and Hermione were nursing mutual crushes on each-other.
