harry potter was eleven when he was thrust in to a world he didn’t fully understand and he was alone and confused and didn’t feel like he truly belonged and he wondered if he’d ever fit in because all he wanted was to have a proper family and actual friends and he was terrified he’d never get that but then he met this extremely kind hearted, warm, friendly, red headed kid named ron weasley who opened up all of those wonderful possibilities and showed him love and acceptance and loyalty and all the things he’d been deprived of his entire life and why isn’t their friendship talked about more

Harry and Ron + Hugs

Ron has never been shy about physical affection. He’s insecure about many things, but never that. His level of comfort with it is something Harry admires about Ron from the day they meet and throughout their entire lives, and it takes him years to catch up to being as okay with hugging and touch as Ron is, but it happens slowly and surely.

Their first hug is on Christmas of their first year, after Harry opens his Snitch sweater from Ron’s mum and is so overcome for a minute that Ron finally just puts his arms around him. Harry is awkward – is it…it’s not…possible that he’s never been hugged before, right? – but he seems grateful.

Their various near-death experiences over the years yield varying levels of hugs, usually from whichever of them watched the other fall first. They’re more to reassure themselves that the other isn’t dead (and sometimes in thanks for their own lives) than a show of affection, but it does open the door, especially for Harry.

The first time Harry reached out on his own to comfort Ron was when Hermione got Petrified. He’s not sure what he’s doing, really, but Ron seems deeply troubled, so Harry does what Ron has always done to comfort him. It takes a minute to figure out how to rub calming circles on Ron’s lower back, but it seems to work. It’s a milestone for both of them in the giving and receiving of affection.

Their first full scale cling to each other is the night after the Second Task. Ron is getting ready for bed after a pleasant day of attention and adventure, when he notices Harry staring at him intently. “You alright, mate?” he asks, and sits down gently on Harry’s bed next to him. Harry shakes his head, looking anxious and shifty, and Ron is in too good a mood to let Harry brood himself to bed.

“When Dobby woke me up this morning in the library, it was ten minutes before the Task, and I didn’t….we hadn’t worked out the clue yet, that you guys weren’t actually going to die.” Ron cocks his head to the side at Harry’s admission, not quite understanding the train of thought. “You did it, though, you got me out. And Gabrielle, too.”

“I didn’t know I was going to. For all I knew, I could have been the reason you died today.”

“Dumbledore wouldn’t’ve let that happen,” Ron says gently, and puts his hand on Harry’s back. Harry recoils violently. “I didn’t know that,” he snarls, and curls in on himself. It breaks Ron’s heart, watching his best friend hurt like this. “Come here,” he says warmly, low in his throat, trying to make himself sound inviting. At his invitation, Harry hesitates for the space of a few seconds, then launches himself at Ron, burying his face in his best friend’s neck, and clinging on tightly. Ron promises that he won’t be the one to let go, and they hang on until Seamus comes into the room to congratulate them both on the Task, and Harry draws up, looking marginally better than before.

Their happiest hug happens when Ron conjures his first Patronus in the Room of Requirement. Hermione smiles proudly – even though he achieved the advanced magic before she did. Harry, though, maybe sensing his own presence in the projection of memory yipping at their ankles, wraps Ron in his arms in delight, so proud and happy he can’t contain his grin. The other DA students, the ones who only know him as their stoic leader, are gratified to see that level in humanity in him.

Nearly a year later, it’s Ginny who sits with Harry for hours after Dumbledore’s funeral, and Hermione who finally gets him to talk about it, but it’s Ron who hugs him and tight and welcomes him back to the land of the living the next morning when Harry comes down to breakfast looking reasonably alert and not caught in a fog of grief. That’s the morning he and Hermione announce that they’re with him, a hundred percent, and are joining him on the hunt for Horcruxes. None of the three of them make it through that conversation dry-eyed.

That year is cold and anxious. Harry is so taught and jumpy that not even Ron can soothe him. The only time they touch that year is after they reunite in the forest, when Ron pulls him gasping from the water like Harry had done for him three years ago. That hug is there, too, even with the emotionality of the moment in itself.

After Harry’s momentary death in the Forbidden Forest, he sometimes loses track of his own heartbeat. He wakes up from nightmares, breathing heavily, but unable to ground himself in life. As the only other person in the flat, with Hermione and Ginny at school, it falls to Ron to sit up with Harry some nights, help him find the pulse in his worn wrist.

Their hugs in later years less fraught, less desperate. They are greetings, congratulations, overflows of gratitude – completely comfortable and no less real for their calm.

captainkirkk:

Concept: adult!Harry is de-aged to his 17yo self, physically and mentally. His place of employment can’t do anything for him, not this young version that doesn’t recognise a peaceful wizarding world, and so he’s sent to stay with the two people he does recognise, no matter how old they are: Ron and Hermione.

And so this teenage Harry who has spent months on the run as Undesireable No. 1, who’s used to a bloody, war torn wizarding world where all hopes and responsibility lay solely on him, spends a few weeks with his adult best friends where he doesn’t have to be anything. Just Harry.

He spends the whole time adjusting – he’s malnourished and shaky and burning up with questions, especially when they try and keep things from him – but it’s… it’s weirdly therapeutic. In typical Weasley fashion, Ron cooks up a ridiculous amount of food and encourages him to eat all of it. He has a Dad Voice, now. It sounds remarkably like Molly. He’s gotten even taller and broader over the years, and teases Harry about his much shorter height and sudden baby face. Hermione is obsessively busy with work but she still finds time to go over the spell that’s de-aged him, and help Ron fuss over him, and sit with him on the front porch at night, when he can’t sleep because of nightmares. She’s aged so gracefully. They love each other so much, and they’re so happy, and it almost hurts to see it, because Harry has been haunted by the idea that none of them will live past 17 when the evidence that they DO is right in front of him

So I was taught a lesson in how to get rid of a migraine in 30 seconds and omfg listen my migraines don’t go away ever but I was shown what part of my body to touch and like???????????????

It’s witchcraft????????? Like I would be burned at the stake if I lived in ye olde days knowing that information?????

What the fuck??????

Spill it! Lol….Hooooowwwww?? Had migraines since age 9….😓😓😓

Its called the T4 push, but I literally can’t find the info online????? I guess I’m not searching good enough? These medical fuckers are holdin out on us lol.

It’s best to have someone do this for you while you stand up and relax your muscles as best you can, but if you’re alone, a tennis ball and a flat surface will probably work. Alternatively you can lie on the edge of a bed at the pressure point. (But no really do try to find someone to do it for you)

Find the area in your spine between either the first, second, third, or fourth vertebrae. It should be sore and uncomfortable to press down on, so look for the one that’s most painful, and press down with as much pressure as you can on that area for 30 seconds.

Realize that 80% of your pain has magically disappeared and keep the info secret if you live in a small puritan town, lest you be tried for witchcraft.

If you don’t have to worry about being burned or hanged, then share the info with your migraine suffering friends.

As someone who wrote a 10k word paper on pressure points for a high belt ranking test in her martial arts class, I can tell you that you just found a pressure point used in acupressure and acupuncture to relieve pain, particularly that in the head. 🙂

Hand to god we discovered this by accident when my husband was rubbing my neck and I nearly collapsed it felt so good

This post was sent by literal angels??? I’ve had a persistent low-level headache for nearly 24hrs and now it’s gone??? In 30 seconds? What gods did you sacrifice to for this information!?!?

As a medical massage therapist, I thought I would give my two cents.

This is good for tension migranes and normal migraines, but actually pretty useless for sinus migraines. It’ll help for a hot second, but quickly come back. (These are usually the migraines behind your eyes, in your ears, and behind your forehead. Sometimes it can feel like jaw pain or TMJ) for sinus migraines, behind the ear in a divot. Press down firmly and pull towards your collarbone. That’ll drain your sinuses. Also, pressing around the eye socket on the cheekbones help. There is also a little triangle up away from the eye in the eyebrow bone. Press and hold pretty hard and that’ll relieve that behind the forehead pain. Also, ear pulling is great to help move sinuses around.

Don’t forget the temples too! Press firmly and hold. Open and close your jaw while holding your temples. It’ll feel weird, but it’ll help with jaw pain. It’ll work a similar way if you hold the jaw joint under your cheekbone.

And never underestimate the power of a foot massage!! Give minutes can be all the difference!! Our feet are our base. If they hurt even a little, somewhere else in your body will hurt. Treat your feet and sinuses kindly!

As a lifelong sufferer from frequent migraines I will reblog this everytime I see it, for myself and my fellow sufferers!!

RUPERT GRINT FILMOGRAPHY

Super Clyde (2013) as Clyde

I’m kinda glad this show didn’t get picked up. It was cute but made me sad watching him for 22 minutes without his accent. 😦

Here’s the pilot if you want to see for yourself.

I know, right! Rupert’s adorable in this (look at him smiling!), but it would have been even better if he’d been allowed to keep his British accent.

Oh, well; at least it’s more convincing that Emma Watson’s American accent…..*shudders*….

Why Lee Jordan would be a feminist…

leeriverofwordsjordan:

  • Half-blood or pureblood Lee still would’ve had to deal with racism.
  • He would’ve used his words and not his fists like other Gryffindor might: When you’re a black Brit, you’re aware that—like it or not—you represent people who look like you.
  • Lee would know it’s better to be funny and approachable. He might not consciously know why. Maybe he had it in his head it was better to be funny and approachable than just loud. Loud could be interpreted as ‘scary.’
  • Angelina Johnson would’ve called him out on his commentary about her.
  • Hermione Granger’s house elf rants would sink in later when he was in the midst of the Second War.
  • Lee went from a character who in the Chamber of Secrets (American Hardback Edition) Chapter 14, Page 258, said “The Heir of Slytherin, the monster of Slytherin–Why don’t they just chuck all the Slytherins out?” and publicly ridiculed Hermione Granger for S.P.E.W. to one who in Deathly Hallows, Chapter 22 , page 439 did this:

“let’s take a moment to report those deaths that the Wizarding Wireless Network and Daily Prophet don’t think important enough to mention.”

  • He acknowledged the names of the missing and the dead on Potterwatch. He gave them back their humanity when those in power denied muggleborns and muggles were just as human as the rest of the magical population. He extended that courtesy to house-elves, too. Gornuk was named among the fallen.
  • Lee was listening when Kingsley Shacklebolt, whose very name is a reminder that slavery and that past affects the present, said "it’s one short step from Wizards first’ to ‘Purebloods first’, and then to ‘Death Eaters.’ “ (DH,Chapter 22, pg 440)
  • Lee Jordan had to listen to others, had to unlearn his own problematic behaviors in order to become a better person. And eventually, he– a black, British, man– hosted a pirate radio station created to speak truth to power.

  • J.K. Rowling could’ve chosen another character for that very important role, but she chose him–one of the few characters depicted as a person of color.
  • And the movies stole that important role from this character by merely using his voice, by never letting people know that voice of Potterwatch was a black man .

We could’ve had a black character commenting on oppression in the movies, but we didn’t. Instead he was invisible. (Original post. X)

  • Lee Jordan would be a feminist because the last thing he would ever want for himself or others is to be invisible.

Summary: Why Charlie never got married (CharliexMC)

He still dreams about her. Some days it will be a memory in which he will give up anything to experience again, other days it will be a nightmare in which she is in danger. He will be yelling for her to run, only to wake up and find out that she isn’t really here. He doesn’t know which one is worse.

Remember that part in “Of Hearts and Heros” when Adrianna made Ron Teachers aid because he was the most approachable out of the Trio?

I just love how much faith Adrianna had in Ron.

On @pynki‘s recommendation (big thank you, by the way), I decided to check this out. It’s a lot longer than fics I normally read, but I had some free-time to spare (I know, the usually modest H&M reading a mature fic; has the world gone topsy-turvy?).

I love how Ron developed some much self-confidence from people just having faith in him! Heck, just reading about it made me feel like I could be more confident in my everyday life!

I think “Of Hearts and Heroes” gets the Ron-Hermione balance really well. It’s how I would have liked the later end of the series to be; showing that they were both teenagers making mistakes rather than proportioning all the blame onto Ron (also this version of Hermione doesn’t set a flock of birds on Ron).

Such a good story (obviously, being me, I avoided the saucy bits) and I really enjoyed reading it.

You had never read  “Of Hearts and Heroes”?

Oh wow, I’m glad I made this post then. You’re more than welcome.

How much did McGonagall being impressed by Ron’s transfiguration warm your heart? God, I love that fic.

Have you read the “Hermione Granger and the OOTP” trilogy?

@headcanonsandmore – you should ask @pynki about the SPEW-RC vault. She’s a curator of some of the ancient works that have otherwise gotten lost to the annals of time.

There’s some siriusly good fic in the vault for private personal appreciation.

@pynki I only started reading fanfiction in the past year, and most of what I do read tends to be one-shots and drabbles.

I LOVED that bit! It was so wonderful to read; wished he’d gotten that level of appreciation in the books, but I’ll take what I can get. Thank you so much for the recommendation; I really enjoyed it!

You mean the trilogy by Ann Margaret? Yeah, I enjoyed it. But I didn’t like the whole ‘Hermione understands her emotions and is just waiting for Ron to catch up’ thing. I think Emmilyne makes it a lot more balanced; like the fact that both of them are being held back by insecurities (Ron thinks he isn’t worthy of Hermione, and Hermione doesn’t think she’s attractive enough for Ron), instead of just ‘Ron got’s the emotional range of a teaspoon LOL’ like so many fanfics do.

@diva-gonzo I don’t really read mature fics (even with ‘Of hearts and heroes’ I just skipped over the saucy bits), so I don’t know whether I’d be the best person to read them. But I’ll happily check them out if you think I’d enjoy the non-NSFW parts of the fanfics!

@headcanonsandmore That’s how I started reading fics, one-shots and drabbles. I too shyed away from smutty fics, it just felt weird so I would scroll past it.

Not going to lie, I’m curious to see if you’ll end up where I did, preferring novel length multi-chapter fics and yelling “IF IT’S NOT RATED M IT’S NOT FANFICTION!” I wonder if it’s a natural evolution of fic reading or if I’m just a Romione perv. (Probably a Romione Perv.)

Of Hearts and Hero’s is a masterpiece and does Ron great justice. I love that part where their jogging and  Adrianna all “go easy on them” and Ron’s all “huh?” and then he realized he could run circles around them if he wanted to… I LOVE that fic. I think I’m gonna start re-read tonight.

It only falls to #2 on my all time fav list after The Hermione Granger trilogy because giving Ron special abilities is extra points in my book and Ann Margaret‘s Drunk!Ron is something to behold.

The Price of love….the whole story kinda hinges on Ron and Hermione doing the do but it is a good read despite that. There’s a bit about a door that cracks me up every time. I’m chuckling just thinking about it. I think there’s a clean version of it in the SPEW library, at least I remember getting a message asking if we had the smut-filled version, could have been for another fic but I’m 75% sure it was for the price of love I’ll double check in case you might want it.

I don’t think I’ve read those either! Added to my list!! 😍 Also is there a good tag or place to get fanfic recommendations or ask if anyone knows of a certain story we’ve read but can’t remember the name only a few details? For example, anyone know of a fic where after the war Ron is being way to gentle for Hermione’s liking since he’s so afraid to hurt her. I feel like I’ve read some but can’t find them. #Romione

@lillymay77-blog  I’m sure there are loads fic rec blogs and tags out there, The ones I know of haven’t posted in ages so I won’t bother giving you those links. There’s no real organization around fic recs and asking about forgotten fics, sorry, it kinda sucks. One of the saddest things about the sites going down is the community that developed within their forums has mostly disappeared.

I’m all for expanding SPEW-RC from an archive into a fic rec/fic help blog.

This post was created out of a moment of nostalgia. Out of the blue, I started thinking about this fic decided to post about, it never crossed my mind that there were people who haven’t read it.

Watching @headcanonsandmore , you and others discovering this fic for the first time is making me so giddy you’d think I wrote it. There are so many amazing fics that have fallen from public consciousness due to age, I have no problem bringing them back from the dead.

I’m sure there are enough of us oldschool fic readers still around to share the ancient text. Right @diva-gonzo?

And yes, Of Hearts and Heroes and The HG trilogy is where I stole the idea of empathy (don’t think I don’t remember you from your reviews of Home Again 😉)

@pynki Thanks again for suggesting ‘Of Hearts and Heroes’. I’m currently re-reading it for the third time. Not sure if I’ll ever get into reading nothing but mature fics, but I appreciate the recs nonetheless.

I love that bit with the jogging too! Especially when everyone starts fancying Ron and he doesn’t even realise at first. And that bit where he checks to see if someone-else (like Harry) is standing behind him is just…. so Ron. Like, of course he doesn’t immediately realise how attractive he is. And I love it when fics show Ron getting the appreciation he never really got in the books.

@diva-gonzo I’m currently working through a lot of the SPEW-RC vault. Some of it isn’t really my thing, but I’m enjoying some of the less-predominantly-sexual fanfics on there. Especially if they are funny and show Ron getting some respect, and not just falling into the ‘Ron’s an idiot who Hermione likes because he’s cute and adorable when he gets things wrong’ attitude (which I can’t stand).

@headcanonsandmore – let me compare what I have in the private archives and the vault later today (timezone issues atm) and see if I can find anything 15 rated or lower. (My apologies since I completely forgot how Ace you are and are sensitive to that content.)

@diva-gonzo Cool; thank you very much! No problem, don’t worry about it. It’s not that I dislike Mature-rated stuff as-such; it’s just that reading it makes me laugh out loud. I don’t know if I’m Ace, Demi or goodness-knows-what-else, but I appreciate you trying to accommodate me nonetheless. 🙂
