I just watched the Interview/Talk JKR did with Steve Kloves a few years back – and they talk about how she originally wanted something happen between Harry and Hermione when Ron left them (thats why she loved that dancing scene in the tent) but ended up not writing it, since she knew Ron would come back… am I the nly one who thinks Harry and Hermione don’t make the slightest bit of sense even with Ron out of the picture? Have I read different books? There’s zero chemistry between H&H!

I personally think Harry and Hermione wouldn’t work at all as a couple. Their personalities don’t mesh well (being so similar), and it’s repeatedly made clear that they both have no idea what the other needs emotionally.

Also, there’s the fact that neither of them show any romantic interest in each-other throughout all seven books. But old Stevie presumably ignored that little detail.

Personally, I think JK Rowling was influenced by Steve Kloves’ writing for the films, and (as a result) she started to doubt her own writing and wonder whether it would have made more sense to have something happen between Harry and Hermione. Steve Kloves got what he was aiming for; making Rowling doubt herself over her own writing, and think maybe Harry and Hermione made more sense.

It’s quite ridiculous when you think about it. Harry and Hermione show no romantic interest in each-other, but Steve Kloves’ meddling was enough to make Rowling toy with the idea of something happening. Over a decade later, we’re still trying to clear up the mess he made in the fandom.

Thankfully, Rowling never added that in, but it would have been a complete 180 turn on all the series before that.

Seriously, Steve Kloves can go do one.

What’s your opinion on the old theory that Molly had a miscarriage/stillbirth/infant death of son, and so Ron was the 7th son? There’s a larger gap between Charlie and Percy than the other children, so it’s not impossible.

Hmmm. Good question.

I suppose it’s an interesting theory, but I personally avoid topics like that due to the sensitive nature of it.

There is a four-year age gap between Charlie and Percy, and it does seem unusual since none of their other children have such a pronounced age gap between them. However, that gap in the middle could be chalked down to the war against Voldemort getting more difficult, as the period 1972-1976 seems to have been when things really escalated. Maybe so many things were going on that Arthur and Molly were never able to talk more about children.

Also, this theory tends to tie into the ‘Ron is a seventh son of a seventh son’ theory, which has been effectively flattened by JK Rowling saying that Arthur was not a seventh son himself. Having said that, JK Rowling’s word-as-law thing is holding less weight with each passing month nowadays, so there you go…

Okay, this is a random question, and feel free to ignore it. What is the fluffy extra blanket on top of your normal blankets called in British English? In American (at least my bit of America) we call it a comforter, but I’m 95% sure it’s got a different name in British English. (Sorry to bother you, but you’re always so sweet about answering Brit-picking questions.)

Well, to start with, in the UK, most of us tend to use duvets instead of blankets/sheets. On top of that (in the colder months, at least) many of us use what other people refer to as a comforter (which is often a thick blanket, often with a fleece lining or fleece texture to it).

In the UK, we do call it a comforter (at least, in recent years), but they are also known as a quilt (or ‘continental quilt’ as they were known when they were first introduced), as well as a eiderdown. I personally call them comforters, but that’s just me.

This wasn’t a bother at all! I really enjoy helping people gain some understanding of the bizareness of British culture and language. And thank you; that means a lot to me. I’m glad you like my content!

I’d love to see Rupert Grint star as the title character from my favorite newspaper comic ‘Frazz’. Frazz is a songwriter who burns out and has to take a job at the elementary school he used to attend as a janitor. There he find inspiration in lives of the students and the world around him and several of his songs become hits. Even though it’s implied he’s become wealthy he keeps his job and lives in a very down to Earth manner. He is the most trusted adult to the kids and is considered a (cont)

Gonna comment on the second part…

i have a question for you. percabeth’s underwater kiss or the romione kiss?

Probably the Romione kiss. I think it was more exciting because it was so sudden. One second, Hermione’s standing normally. The next, she’s throwing herself at Ron and full-on snogging him. The battle’s going on around them, but they just keep snogging. So wonderful!

Don’t get me wrong; I do like Percy and Annabeth as a couple, and I like when they finally got together. But I’m always going to prefer my OTP’s kiss over any other. Sorry.

Thanks for the ask, @ronandhappiness
